Mood Indigo
Mood Indigo was released on 2 October 1996 as Anouk's official debut single and marked the first introduction to her distinctive voice and rock sound. At the time, Anouk was still largely unknown outside the live circuit in The Hague.
The song was written by Barry Hay and George Kooymans of Golden Earring, making them among the first established Dutch musicians to support Anouk early in her career.
Although Mood Indigo failed to become a commercial success and did not enter the Dutch Top 40, the single remains notable as the very first official release in Anouk's recording career.
A videoclip was produced for the single featuring legendary tattoo artist Hanky Panky. The clip initially received little attention, but after Anouk's breakthrough with Nobody's Wife in 1997, it was regularly broadcast on Dutch music television channels such as TMF.
In retrospect, Mood Indigo mainly serves as an early document of Anouk's development as an artist, as the opening single from her debut album Together Alone.
