Nobody's Wife
Nobody's Wife became Anouk's breakthrough single in 1997 and turned her from a relatively unknown singer into one of the most talked-about new rock artists in the Netherlands.
After the disappointing chart performance of Mood Indigo, plans for additional songs by Barry Hay and George Kooymans of Golden Earring were put on hold due to the band's busy schedule.
Anouk then began writing new material together with her close friend Bart van Veen. According to those involved, the pair completed six songs within only two weeks, laying the foundation for much of Together Alone.
One of those songs was Nobody's Wife, which was initially not considered a major single contender. Only after Anouk performed the song live and received strong audience reactions was it decided to give the track a more prominent place on the album.
Released as a single in 1997, Nobody's Wife quickly climbed to number 2 in the Dutch charts and became the song that launched Anouk's national breakthrough. The track is widely seen as a reckoning with Anouk's brief marriage to her manager Edwin Jansen.
