Urban Solitude
Urban Solitude is Anouk's second studio album, released in 1999, and one of the key early records in her catalogue.
The album produced several well-known singles, including R U Kiddin' Me, Michel, The Dark and Don't, and performed strongly in both the Netherlands and Belgium.
With its mix of melodic rock songs and more reflective material, Urban Solitude helped consolidate Anouk's position after Together Alone and remains one of the defining releases from the early phase of her career.
The album also includes a few notable exceptions in its credits: My Best Wasn't Good Enough was written by Dinand Woesthoff and recorded as a duet with him. U Being U was originally intended for a Billy the Kid album, but Anouk decided to keep the song for Urban Solitude. In return, Ricardo Pronk took Loser for his own record.
Around its release, Urban Solitude was also presented at a dedicated CD presentation at the Omniversum in The Hague on 8 November 1999, where several tracks were played with video animation rather than performed live by Anouk.
