Hail
In July 2003, Hail was released as the third single from Anouk's album Graduated Fool. The song is slower and more intimate than its predecessors Everything and I Live For You. In Hail, Anouk expresses her fear and concern about the unrest in the world.
Anouk first performed Hail at Noorderslag 2002. The single was released as a 2-track CD single in a cardboard sleeve, featuring the album version and a live recording of Hail. A 3-track maxi-single version was also released in a plastic case, adding the album track Searching. The maxi-single was only available briefly, as an incorrect label number was printed on the side.
The music video is a simple but touching recording of Anouk with her son Benjahmin in the dunes. Benjahmin, Anouk's son with The Anonymous, makes his debut in the clip. In the video, Anouk shows herself as a mother rather than a rock diva.
Despite the beautiful clip, Hail did not become a major hit. However, it did become a small hit in the Netherlands, reaching number 31 in the Dutch Top 40.
