Hotel New York
Hotel New York is Anouk's 2004 studio album and one of the major commercial successes in her catalogue. The album debuted at number one in the Netherlands and later achieved triple platinum status.
The album takes its title from Hotel New York in Rotterdam, where much of the material was written while Anouk stayed in room 101 and worked with longtime collaborator Bart van Veen.
Compared with Graduated Fool, the record was widely described at the time as a more melodic and varied release, with singles such as Girl, Lost, Jerusalem and One Word helping to define the album.
The album also includes a writing collaboration with Remon Stotijn on Heaven Knows. In interviews, Anouk said that One Word was written about her former foster mother, who died by suicide after stepping in front of a train.
The album was originally announced for an October 2003 release, with the single Girl planned for the second half of that month. Both were delayed and ultimately released in December 2004.
To mark the release of Hotel New York, Anouk also played an exclusive concert at the Melkweg in Amsterdam on 8 December 2004. Tickets were not sold publicly, but distributed through promotional actions by MTV, Nieuwe Revu, Free Record Shop and 3FM.
