Queen For a Day
Queen for a Day is a 2016 album by Anouk and was described by the singer herself as a pure pop record, built around polished songwriting, melody and vocal performance.
Anouk explained that she also enjoys writing real pop songs and had collected enough material to release a pop album of her own.
The title refers to the feeling she has on the day of a major show: feeling like a queen for one day, before ordinary life quickly returns.
Several songs were linked to personal experiences. New Day was inspired by a holiday with her children and friends, while Be My Baby reflects on heartbreak and learning to approach relationships differently.
Other tracks carry a broader emotional or social meaning: We Are was shaped by Anouk's concerns about empathy and the hardening of society, while If I Knew was written in memory of a close friend she had lost.
Keeps Getting Better was written after Anouk returned from Paris, where she had been during the November 2015 attacks, adding a more serious undercurrent to the album's polished pop sound.
